Goodbye

  As you are no doubt aware from Rumor's post and subsequent gossip line 
  chats, The Marble Group, the owners of the mud, have given control of 
  3Scapes to Korenth (aka Atropos/Ariakis/etc.), to hold or delegate or share 
  authority as he sees fit.  You may or may not be aware of the ideas he has 
  had over the years for the direction of 3S, many of which were discussed on 
  the gossip line.  If not, I would say a fair synopsis is that he values the 
  direction 3K took compared to 3S, and would like that 3S were more like 3K. 
 
  Unfortunately for this scenario, the players and wizards of 3S, whom I 
  would describe as a smaller but more tightly-knit community, are here as I 
  see it because we value the vision that Rumor started, and various 3S 
  wizards have contributed to and helped shape, and have no interest in 
  pursuing 3K's direction. 
 
  I wish I could say that this change happened over our objections, but I 
  cannot, as none of us were informed of it beforehand, much less consulted. 
 
  To the players of 3S:  I am so very sorry to be writing this.  Please know 
  that your joy, excitement and interest in exploring new areas and mudlib 
  functionality, in seeing what your gobj could do now, this was my pay for 
  the coding, and it was a good salary.  If you like 3K's direction more, I'm 
  not sure why you didn't just play there but you're probably good.  If you 
  prefer the 3S vision, as I expect you do because here you are, I wish I 
  could offer you hope, but to be honest I cannot. 
 
  To the principals:  I find it hard to imagine how you imagined this would 
  be OK; it shows a disconnect beyond what I'd known.  Please know that this 
  is a breach of trust that cannot be remedied -- an NDA on code would be 
  perfectly reasonable, but to continue we'd have to have an idea that this 
  couldn't happen again.  I can understand and even sympathize with the 
  conditions that led you to this point, but I cannot forgive you, because 
  you have taken something important from me, and it will never come back. 
 
  To our new head Archon:  I hereby tender my resignation, effective 
  immediately.

  PS to all:  if you want to play 3S still, because it's fun, go with fun.  
  If you consider supporting it with your time, your skills, your treasure -- 
  carefully consider who benefits from your actions, and what might become of 
  it in the end, and make the decision that's right for you.
