death

Basics

heading: Your friendly neighborhood Grim Reaper

On 3scapes, players are given every opportunity to make their
characters strong and powerful. However, sometimes the unfortunate
thing happens; a player falls in battle to a monster, stumbles into a
deathtrap or just plain drops dead of something unexpected. 3S's Reaper
requires obvious payment for the transgression into death, but the
swing of his scythe doesn't cut so deeply as to destroy weeks or even
days worth of work from a character.

The loss from the Reaper's toll is as follows:

* A 10% loss of gained experience (capped, see Insane Details at bottom)
* A loss of your highest stat (capped, see Insane Details at bottom)
* If your experience no longer supported your level, one level
* 1 hour of 10% reduced xp rate. If you die within that hour, it will restart
to 2 hours at 20% reduced xp rate. Should you continue to 10 deaths it will be
91% with increments of 1% up to 99%. It never goes above 99% but the hours
  continue scaling.

Even beyond this, players are afforded a few ways to thwart his harvest
partially, or even altogether. One path is seeking out the divine
assistance only those closest to the gods could provide. Their help
would not only negate the experience loss, but also would reduce
by half, the statistical loss. Another potential avenue of help
is through those that walk with Death all their lives. Their arcane
guidance bargains the Angel of Death into requiring the loss of
neither experience nor stat. Be aware, however, that Death is indeed
proud, and requires more than a few coins on the eyelids of the dead
in recompense for his generosity.

Perhaps there are even other ways to stay the sickle that falls
from the Reaper's hand. Maybe to even further reduce the pain
and agony of Death's cold embrace, adventurers could find those
paths and follow them to greater salvation.

Insane Details
--------------
Let's start with stats...
If your highest stat is OVER 100 you will be granted back the XP
difference between a 100 value stat and your stat. The total loss
will not exceed 20mil XP + XP equivalent to a 100 stat. For instance,
a 100 value stat costs around 25 million XP to raise. A 103 value
stat costs around 35 million.

Dizzy yet?

Example 1:
If your stats were Str:103 Dex:20 Wis:20 Int:20 Con:20 Cha:20, then
your Str of 103 would go to 102. Now, to raise your Str back to 103,
it would cost your 35 million XP, but your loss is capped at the amount
of the stat at 100, which is 25 million, which means that you lose the
stat, but you are given 10 million XP back.

Example 2:
If your stats were Str:82 Dex:20 Wis:20 Int:20 Con:20 Cha:20, then
your Str goes from 82 to 81 and that's it.

Now, for XP, the loss is 10% of your total, capped at 20 million.

So, as you can see, it is quite possible to recover from death, no
matter how painful the experience was... *dgrin*
